”the instagram algorithm has changed”
I’m too lazy to locate it again, but early this morning I was doomscrolling and came across an informational graphic on IG about changes to the algorithm, concluding with tips and tricks for artists looking to self-promote and/or support other artists. What I remember most is the shape of the background image. It was purple and curved on the top and straight on the bottom like a tombstone. Was it supposed to look like a tombstone? The juxtaposition of the optimistic self-help text and the morbid imagery seems perfect for describing the state of Instagram, I guess; it’s also an aesthetic that people on the platform have seemingly adopted without irony.
