using bear blog for microblogging
I mentioned in my first post that I deleted my Bluesky account after watching it abruptly enshittify over the last few weeks. Life after Bluesky has been interesting (dare I say… more fulfilling?) but I was intrigued by this guide and created a separate microblog for shorter thoughts/image collection as a kind of experiment. The experimental part is that it’s literally just me screaming into the void instead of engaging with a ~4k following (realistically, I probably engaged with ~100-150 accounts on Bluesky; I have a sneaking suspicion that the bulk of my following was made up of bots/inactive accounts).
I created an entirely separate microblog instead of tagging posts “status” here because
- I have a pro account and thus have the ability to create multiple blogs
- I was concerned that I’d forget to add “make_discoverable: false” to my post attributes when appropriate, as tweet-style content violates Bear Blog community standards. (Even if that weren’t the case, I would be embarrassed if I ever accidentally spammed the Discover feed.)
I figured that sticking to Bear Blog was easier than creating another account elsewhere. I’ve noticed that other people seem to like status.cafe, so I’ll share that here for anyone looking for smaller platforms.
Finally, here is my (most likely short-lived) microblog if you’d like to see the above mentioned guide in action 👼
